In April 2003 is mnr. André Pretorius as skoolhoof aangestel. In 2017 neem mnr.

OUR STORY

The opening of Brackenfell High Schoool on 21 January 1976 was a dream that started as far back as 1906. In January 1906 Mrs Janet Brink, the widow of Andries Brink, donated one acre of land for the construction of a school in Brackenfell. While the school was built, children temporarily attended school at the home of Mr CM Nagel.

On 9 April 1906, 18 learners started school in a one room building under tutelage of Ms Miller. In January 1907 the school was placed under the control of the Stellenbosch School Board. Since the school grew so fast, two more classrooms had to be built and a third was rented from the Dutch Reformed Church. By 1949, 202 children attended the school and there was an urgent need for better facilities. The new school building opened in 1960 and form January 1964 it was classified as a middle school. In January 1973 it became a fully-fledged high school that also accommodated the primary school.

Due to the immense growth in student numbers a new school had to be build. The current school building was built in 1975 and opened its doors in January 1976. Exactly 70 years later the new school opened with 234 learners, 14 teachers and one secretary. On 14 August 1976, Dr PS Meyer, the Director of Education at the time, officially opened the school.

A new badge was designed by Dr C Pama of the SA Council of Heraldry.

The school song was written by Mrs Rika du Plessis and set to music by Dr Dirkie de Villiers. The badge and school song were taken into use on 11 September 1978.

The new school uniform (must coloured blazers and light brown parts and dresses) was taken into use.

In July 1983, Mr O Theron was appointed as the new principal. After conversing with Brackenfell Primary. Bastion and the Paarl – school, a standardized school uniform (a navy blazar, grey pants and blue dress) was taken into use in 1994.

Under leadership of Mr O Theron the activity centre was built in 1992. The building was named after him since he spearheaded the project.

In April 2003 Mr André Pretorius was appointed as principal. Yet again the building had to be enlarged and the facilities upgraded. The inauguration of the pavilion with approximately 1 000 seats on 20 March 2010, is the culmination of another dream came true. In 2017 Mr Jannie Muller takes over as principal of Brackenfell High School. The achievements of the past 40 years, is of great honour to all involved – Altiora Spero!
